Independent Bankers Association of Texas Recognizes Lubbock Bank’s Architectural Design Achievement
Lubbock, Texas — October 13, 2026
The Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT), the largest state community banking association in the nation, recently honored Maverick Bank in Lubbock with a Best of Community Banking (BOCB) Award. The bank received a Bronze Eagle Award in the Architectural Design category for its “Modernizing a Legacy Institution: Maverick Bank’s Transformation from Historic Community Bank to Regional Growth Leader” entry.
Maverick Bank’s new Lubbock banking center represents the latest chapter in the evolution of a West Texas institution with roots dating back more than a century. Founded in 1911 as Fort Davis State Bank, the bank spent more than 100 years serving the Big Bend region before entering a period of significant investment and expansion following an ownership change in 2022.
As part of that evolution, the institution rebranded as Maverick Bank in 2024 while investing in technology, infrastructure, products and services and expanding into larger West Texas markets. The bank’s move into Lubbock became a key part of that growth strategy, initially operating from a temporary location while developing a permanent home in the community.
On March 31, 2026, Maverick Bank celebrated the grand opening of its new two-story, 14,570-square-foot banking center at 12705 Quaker Avenue. The permanent facility establishes a significant presence in the Lubbock market and provides a foundation for the bank’s continued growth while maintaining the community-focused approach that has defined the institution throughout its history.
Today, Maverick Bank operates across nine West Texas markets and has grown to approximately $800 million in assets. The Lubbock banking center reflects the bank’s broader transformation from a historic Big Bend institution into a growing regional community bank while preserving the local relationships and West Texas roots at the center of its identity.
2026 marks the 35th year that IBAT has celebrated the outstanding accomplishments of Texas community banks with the BOCB Awards. Community banks, such as Maverick Bank, play a critical role in their local communities. The Best of Community Banking competition is designed to honor local banks for their commitment to helping their customers, neighbors, employees, and community. BOCB Awards recognize community banks throughout the state for their innovation, creativity, and success in fulfilling a specific community or internal need.
